about

What surprised me upon first listening to 'Walking on Woods' was not the difference between the two musicians, but the similarity between them. Their interpretations showed that not only do their impressions change depending on the circumstances of the same forest visit, but that even different forests - Korean, Japanese, Indian - give a similar experience. Right now, we are forced to listen to this album alone with small speakers and headphones, but I am looking forward to the day when we can gather in a forest and listen to this album together.
- Kazuhiro Jo (Japan, Associate Professor at Kyushu University )

‘Walking in Woods’ transforms the forest’s glory into the realm of spluttering electrons, each track offering the listener the opportunity to bask in various arboreal perspectives, locations, seasons, and experiences. Stimulating and soothing!
- Dave Skipper (UK, Tokyo Festival of Modular Organizer ,Coordinator)

Complete indulgence in exquisite and delicate noises. I’d love to recommend the ‘Walking in Woods’ to those who are seeking for an extra-ordinary aural experience. You will be able to see (yes literally and visually) and feel the beautiful landscape that has been created by two incredible sonic mayhem masters.
- Junghoon Pi (South Korea, Associate Professor at Seoul Institute of the Arts)

YI SEUNGGYU / Hatiyar - Walking on Woods

Music is standard based on sound, and it evolves in each fields according to the different period.
Architectural developments completed sound music and produced Classical, Baroque, and Romantic music.
In addition, after the electrical civilization, new tones and types of musical instruments were developed, and by the current digital civilization, music could be produced and appreciated almost without any restrictions.
As such, sound evolves to various forms, and becoming modern music and listening to is goes beyond the appreciation of music and presents experience.

YI SEUNGGYU / Hatiyar - Walking on Woods

<Walking on Woods> is a modern music album that asks how the two musicians, YI SEUNGGYU the Korean based in Japan and Hatiyar, who is active in India, can musically dismantle the images of "Woods" interpreted in their own ways through analog modular synthesizers and computer programming.

The two musicians interpret the huge forest as if it were totally designed with a disorganized sound and organized it musically, making it feel as if they were listening to old tapes or looking into fine air currents.
Therefore, a track full of noise acts as a deliberate sequence rather than a momentary noise, leading the listener to trance rather than intense appreciation.
And this album asks you, 'What kind of experience can give you?'

YI SEUNGGYU / Hatiyar - Walking on Woods

YI SEUNGGYU / Hatiyar

YI SEUNGGYU is a Korean electronic musician based in Japan. He approaches sound in a raw manner, combining analog modular synthesizers and computer programming than differentiating them.
Through dismantling musical formation, Yi explores what experiences sound can give listeners, whether it is more musical experience or acoustic.

Hatiyar (weapon in Hindi) a harsh noise sound arts performer from Bhopal, India. Hatiyar’s noise journey started in 2012 with the track Traumatic Brain Injury. Heavily inspired by Akita Masami, Keiji Haino, Gruesome Malady and Vomir. Abstract abrasive electronic experimental sounds is what sets Hatiyar apart from other Indian artists.
